On June 29, 2026, Beijing singer-songwriter Song Dongye released Take Another Moment, his second album and his first in 13 years. This world tour brings its new work to the stage alongside songs audiences already know and love.

Between 2017 and 2018, Song Dongye released the singles “Kong Gang Qu,” “Guo Yuan Chao” and “Zhi Dao,” moving beyond the boundaries of folk and reshaping how his music was understood. Now, 13 years after An He Qiao Bei, his second studio album, Take Another Moment, is produced by Song himself—and once again reaches beyond expectations.

In the intervening years, he has lost weight, gone fishing, taken photographs and turned beads in his hands. He has also completed Take Another Moment, an album remarkable both for the breadth of its writing and for the layers of its sound.

He still writes the words and music, and now takes on the arrangements and production as well. His teachers and companions include more than 20 instruments and sound sources, leading Chinese jazz musicians such as Wen Zhiyong, Xia Jia and Gao Taihang, and independent musicians as quietly self-effacing as Xing Jiangbo.

He still sometimes puts on a mischievous air, perhaps to balance his absolute seriousness and love for music—for example, by putting his cat’s backside on the record cover. His photographs, meanwhile, remain a thoughtful and distinctive gaze at the world around him.

He still possesses an enviable gift for melody and an unmistakable voice, dwelling in absurd and paradoxical reflections, encoding densely layered, elusive images into a succession of tuneful riddles.

He still sometimes has not quite figured it out.
